The controversy surrounding the alleged Pakistan links of Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi continues to rage. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while recounting an incident, said that he was in Singapore with an investment proposal for Assam when the picture went viral showing Gaurav Gogoi taking some young people to the Pakistani embassy. Abdul Basit was the Pakistani High Commissioner to India at that time. In a way, he tried to legitimize Pakistan.
What he said while mentioning the Kargil War
He further added that if you look at this picture against the backdrop of the Kargil War, Captain Jintu Gogoi of Assam sacrificed his life for the country. Many others also made sacrifices for the nation. Everyone knows how the people of the country supported the Prime Minister during our relations with Pakistan and Operation Sindhu. This reflects the sentiments of the country.
Himanta Biswa Sarma leveled serious allegations
Sarma said that he doesn’t think any other Congress leader has ever visited Pakistan with such a large delegation. For a long time, he thought the picture was photoshopped, but after two or three days, Congress leaders started supporting it. That’s when he realized the picture was real. Then they started a full investigation because this matter cannot be isolated.
Now the Home Ministry will investigate – Sarma
He further said that it is not a matter of pride but a matter of sorrow that an MP from Assam has connections with Pakistan. He stated that the case of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan links will now be handed over to the Home Ministry. He said that three main people are involved in this case: MP Gaurav Gogoi, his British wife Elizabeth Colburn, and Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.
