When Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) started in 1947, the MBBS course was started with only 57 students. But now the same college is moving towards another new achievement. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that from the coming academic session, the MBBS seats in this college will be increased from 200 to 250.
Big announcement and confidence of the Chief Minister
The Chief Minister made this announcement while laying the foundation of new buildings to be built at a cost of Rs 357 crore in the AMCH campus in Dibrugarh. He said that the proposal to increase MBBS seats is in the process of final approval and the government is confident that this new system will be implemented from this year itself.

New opportunities for students
With the implementation of this decision, the MBBS seats of the college will increase by 25 percent. This will not only provide more opportunities to the students but will also increase the number of trained doctors working in the medical field. This is a relief news especially for those students who used to be left out every year due to limited seats.
Healthcare sector will get a boost
This step was very necessary in view of the increasing need for doctors and demand for health services in Assam. More MBBS seats will enable the state to get more number of doctors and health workers in the coming years. This will also provide better health facilities in rural areas.
Glimpse of future plans
Chief Minister Sarma also said that the government is working towards strengthening medical education and health infrastructure even more. New projects worth Rs 357 crore will give a new direction to the medical sector of Assam and will broaden the quality and reach of medical education in an area like Dibrugarh.
