Assam: Big news has come from Nagaon district of Assam where opposition party AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam has been detained under the National Security Act i.e. NSA. He is accused of defending Pakistan and supporting its role in the Pahalgam terror attack. According to officials, Aminul Islam was arrested on 24 April on charges of sedition as he made inflammatory and misleading statements in a public meeting.
Taken into custody again soon after bail
Nagaon district Superintendent of Police Swapnil Deka said that Aminul Islam had got bail from the court on Wednesday. But as soon as he was released from Nagaon Central Jail, he was immediately taken into custody again under the NSA and kept in jail there. The police officer said that the investigation of the case is going on and more information cannot be shared at the moment. This action of the police is also about his earlier statements which have been described as provocative.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave information
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reacted to this entire incident. He said that the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Nagaon district have taken MLA Aminul Islam from Dhing area into preventive custody under Section 3(2) of the NSA. This step has been taken on the basis of the report submitted by the Superintendent of Police. The report states that the MLA gave inflammatory speeches during the panchayat election campaign and a video went viral in which he accused the government of conspiracy related to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Old cases also cited in NSA dossier
A senior police officer said that the dossier registered under NSA also mentions 23 cases already registered against MLA Aminul Islam. Earlier also cases have been registered against him under different criminal sections. In view of these cases, the administration has decided that his activities can pose a threat to national security. Therefore, it has been considered necessary to keep him in custody under NSA.
