Harveri Gangrape Row: After getting bail, five accused in the 2024 gang rape case in Haveri district of Karnataka behaved in such a way that shocked the whole country. As soon as the accused were released from jail, they started doing road shows on the streets. With a convoy of five vehicles and about 20 people, these accused took out a procession in which they were seen laughing and showing victory signs. This entire video went viral on social media, after which people got angry. This incident is being strongly condemned everywhere and people are asking how people with such mentality got bail.

Anger erupted on social media, police arrested again
As soon as the video surfaced, people expressed their displeasure on social media. On places like Twitter and Instagram, people questioned the police and the courts and wrote that this is injustice done to the victim again. Due to this increasing public pressure, the police had to take strict action once again. The police arrested the five accused again so that law and order and the confidence of the victim’s side could be maintained. The police said that even though they had got bail from the court, violation of bail conditions and such celebration is unacceptable.
Why was bail granted by the court?
The Haveri Sessions Court had granted bail to five of the seven accused in this case because the victim could not identify the accused in the court. The names of the accused are – Aftab Chandankatti, Madar Saab Mandakki, Samiulla Lalanwar, Mohammed Sadiq Agasimaani, Shoaib Mulla, Touseef Choti and Riyaz Savikeri. This incident is 16 months old and due to the long legal process, the case was still going on. When the victim’s testimony weakened in the court, the five accused came out. But as soon as they came out, their celebration made the matter bigger.

What was the whole matter?
This case is of the year 2024 when several people entered the room of an inter-religious couple staying in a hotel in Haveri, Karnataka. According to the police, the accused forcibly dragged the woman to a nearby forest and gang-raped her. When this case came to light, there was a stir in the entire area. The police immediately arrested the accused and registered a case. But due to the long legal process and lack of evidence, the case started weakening. Now when the accused came out of jail, their road show again started a discussion in the whole country about what kind of strict and quick action should be taken on crimes against women.
