The investigation into Gaurav Gogoi and his wife's Pakistan connection will now be handled by a central agency.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday that the investigation into the alleged links of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and his wife with Pakistan will be handed over to a central agency. The state government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations leveled by Sarma against the couple. The SIT submitted its report on September 10.

Speaking to the media during an event, the Chief Minister said, “Now that the SIT has filed the charge sheet in the case related to Zubeen Garg’s death, we will proceed with the Gaurav Gogoi case.” He added that after the regular hearings in the Garg case begin, they will share some documents by the end of this month or next month. However, he clarified that the case will be referred to a central agency for further investigation.

Why was the investigation handed over to central agencies?

Regarding the decision to hand over the investigation to central agencies, Sarma said, “In such a complex case, it would not be possible for the Assam SIT alone to investigate and bring out all aspects.” However, he also claimed that whatever the SIT has achieved in this case “is sufficient to draw conclusions against the accused.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma has long been accusing Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth Colburn of having links with the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI. However, he has not presented any concrete evidence to support these allegations.

Allegations against Gaurav Gogoi and his wife

In recent months, Himanta Biswa Sarma has leveled several serious allegations against Congress MP and Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi and his British wife Elizabeth Colburn. These allegations primarily center on alleged links with the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, which have been a subject of political controversy since early 2025.

Himanta Biswa’s allegations dismissed

Gaurav Gogoi had earlier dismissed Himanta Biswa’s allegations, saying they were like a B-grade Bollywood film that is bound to flop. There has been no fresh reaction from Gogoi regarding the handing over of the investigation to central agencies.
