The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its preparations for the 2026 assembly elections. The party has drawn up a packed schedule of organizational programs and high-profile visits for the remainder of December. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that the party will hold two crucial meetings on December 26 and 27 to lay the groundwork for the elections. These meetings are expected to be attended by senior national leaders.
Participation of Central Leaders and Inauguration of Development Projects
Sarma said that BJP National Working President Nitin Nabin, National General Secretary B.L. Santosh, and state assembly election in-charges Vajayan Panna and Harish Trivedi are expected to attend these meetings. He added that a series of programs will be held throughout the rest of December. The Chief Minister also stated that this series of visits and programs symbolizes the culmination of the development work undertaken during the five-year term of the government. Several projects are nearing completion, and various dignitaries will be visiting to inaugurate them.
Review of Organizational Preparations
Prior to the scheduled meetings, Sarma reviewed the organizational preparations with Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia and party workers. The Chief Minister expressed confidence in the party workers, stating that the upcoming programs will be conducted smoothly with their cooperation across the state. This activity is being complemented by high-level visits from central leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Assam on December 20 and 21, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the state on December 29.
Amit Shah’s Plans and BJP’s Election Strategy
Sarma informed that Amit Shah will inaugurate the Police Commissioner’s office in Guwahati, launch the city’s CCTV surveillance system, and inaugurate the Jyoti Vishnu Cultural Auditorium, which he described as the largest cultural auditorium in Eastern India. On the same day, he will also visit Nagaon and inaugurate the Batadrava project. These continuous activities, organizational meetings, and visits by central leaders indicate that the Assam BJP is actively and systematically preparing for the 2026 assembly elections.
