Tata’s blast in Assam is faster than Gujarat, Himanta Biswa Sarma’s big revelation

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the Tata Group’s electronics manufacturing project in Guwahati is progressing faster than in Gujarat. He said this at the Assam Electronics Roundtable 2025 held in New Delhi. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Tata had announced projects at two places simultaneously. One in Gujarat and the other in Guwahati. But if someone visits both these plants today, he will see that the progress in Assam is much more than Gujarat. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam does not have the ‘problem of excess’, that is, we can work more actively with limited resources. Therefore, we can negotiate according to our needs and meet the needs of investors.

Difference between projects in Gujarat and Assam

In Gujarat, Tata Electronics is building the country’s first semiconductor fabrication plant in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC). This plant is being built in Dholera with an investment of about $ 11 billion i.e. about Rs 90 thousand crores. On the other hand, Tata is building an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Assam. The plant aims to produce 4.8 crore chips daily. Chief Minister Sarma said that this project presents Assam as a strong investment destination. This will give Assam a new identity in the field of electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.

Assam ready for investment: Chief Minister Sarma

While luring investors, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this is the best time to set up industry in Assam. He said that five years from today, Assam may also have the problem of excess of resources, but right now the state has developed itself and the government is very active. Therefore, whatever investors come, they will be given full help from the government. He said that the government will support the investors at every level and will make their journey easy and successful. Sarma said that the facilities that Assam can provide to investors today may not be available in future. Therefore, they should take full advantage of this opportunity.

New investment possibilities in Northeast India

Through the Tata project, Assam is emerging as a new hub of investment in Northeast India. Chief Minister Sarma says that this project shows that Assam can now attract big industrial investments. He said that Assam has many advantages for investors like less competition, direct support of the government and quick decisions. Apart from this, the geographical location of the state makes it a gateway to the markets of the Northeast. Sarma said that Assam has immense potential in the field of electronics and semiconductors and the state can play a big role in this sector in future.
