Serious Allegations Against Assam CM Himanta: Claims That His Wife Possesses Three Passports Spark Uproar.

Congress leader Pawan Khera has leveled a serious allegation against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family. He alleges that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife holds not one but three passports. All three are living passports: one from Abu Dhabi, another from Egypt, and the third from Antigua Barbuda. The biggest question, then, is whether she is an Indian citizen? Does she also hold an Indian passport? If so, India doesn’t allow dual citizenship.

Responding to Congress leader Pawan Khera’s allegations, CM Sarma said that his accusations were fabricated and malicious. The people of Assam will not be misled. He said he would also file a defamation case against Khera.

Will take legal action against Pawan Khera

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said he and his wife will take legal action against Congress leader Pawan Khera, who has falsely accused him of holding multiple passports and owning properties in Dubai that were not mentioned in his election affidavit. Sarma also claimed that there were serious discrepancies in the documents shared by Khera, indicating it was a shoddy and sham attempt at digital manipulation.

Pawan Khera made serious allegations

In fact, just four days before Assam went to the polls on April 9, Pawan Khera alleged at a press conference in New Delhi that CM Sarma’s wife holds three passports of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Antigua-Barbuda and Egypt, which expire in March 2027, August 2031 and February 2029.

Pawan Khera also alleged that the Assam CM’s wife owns two properties in Dubai. He said that many people own properties abroad, but when a spouse contests an election, it is mandatory for them to disclose these properties in their affidavit. However, CM Sarma’s affidavit makes no mention of these two properties in Dubai.

Himanta Biswa Sarma hit back

Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a post on X, hit back at Pawan Khera, saying, “Congress propaganda exposed – serious discrepancies exposed. The documents being circulated contain several glaring discrepancies, indicating a shoddy and poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation.” He added that the Congress used Sarma instead of his wife’s official surname, Sharma.

The Chief Minister stated that the photograph appears to be a publicly available image, not a standard biometric capture. He added that in the alleged UAE passport, the country code displayed in the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) indicates a different country code, while the ID sequence is inconsistent. He added that the Antigua and Barbuda passport has a discrepancy in the expiration date between the printed area and the MRZ.

Pawan Khera will go to jail

He said it also contains spelling mistakes and incorrect references to the Arabic language. The CM further stated that the QR code of the ownership document appears invalid and does not link to any authentic record. He said that these discrepancies clearly point to fabrication or digital manipulation. He added that the truth will prevail. Those spreading misinformation will be held accountable. CM Sarma stressed that he is confident that Pawan Khera’s campaign of lies is about to end. Ultimately, Pawan Khera will go to jail.

We will go to court: Riniki

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan, said she expected a national party spokesperson to exercise basic caution, not circulate poorly fabricated images of fictitious passports and documents. In a post on X, Bhuyan said the law will now take its course, criminal charges have been filed, and we can pursue this in court.

Gaurav Gogoi took a jibe

Meanwhile, state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi said that shocking allegations have surfaced against Chief Minister Himanta. Holding multiple passports and failing to disclose assets is a serious and criminal offense. In a post on Instagram, Gogoi asked, “How much money has he transferred from Assam to his foreign bank accounts? More investigation is needed.” He claimed that the Chief Minister has become an embarrassment to the state of Assam and India and will face consequences for his crimes.
