Ramayana Teaser Released: Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Yash as Ravana Sparks Massive Buzz

The teaser for Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra’s highly anticipated film, Ramayana, was released in India on Thursday. Following its successful launch in the US, Indian audiences have now also received their first glimpse of this epic mythological saga. The teaser features Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. Although the teaser contains no dialogue, its visuals are replete with subtle nuances that allude to pivotal episodes from the Ramayana.

The Shiva Dhanush and Sita Swayamvar

The teaser opens with a magnificent scene in which Ranbir Kapoor is seen lifting the colossal Pinaka bow and stringing it. King Janaka had vowed that Sita would be wed to whoever could lift this bow. The teaser depicts Ram not only lifting it with effortless ease but also breaking it in two. Furthermore, visuals of Ram walking amidst a shower of flowers vividly capture the grandeur of the Sita Swayamvar.

The Emotional Journey from Coronation to Exile

Another significant detail lies in the transformation of Ram’s attire. The teaser beautifully portrays the transition—from King Dasharatha’s preparations for Ram’s coronation to scenes of Ram departing for his 14-year exile clad in simple, ascetic garments. The visual of the chariot, driven by Sumant and followed by a sorrowful multitude of subjects, brings to life that poignant moment when Ram was leaving his beloved Ayodhya behind.

The Demons of Dandakaranya and Jatayu’s Sacrifice

The teaser also offers glimpses of the Aranya Kand (Forest Chapter), wherein Ram slays colossal demons to protect the sages. The demons depicted in the teaser bear a resemblance to “trolls,” thereby heightening the visual intensity and horror of the battlefield. Additionally, certain scenes suggest that Ram is performing the final rites for Jatayu, the King of Birds. Jatayu sacrificed his life while attempting to rescue Sita from Ravana, and Rama performed his final rites, honoring him with the reverence due to his own father.

The New Avatar of the Pushpak Vimana

In previous adaptations of the Ramayana, the Pushpak Vimana has often been depicted in the shape of a peacock; however, in this film, it is portrayed as an intricate, flying contraption shaped like a lotus. Crafted by Vishwakarma, this divine aerial vehicle was usurped by Ravana from his brother, Kubera, and it was precisely this craft that he utilized to abduct Sita.

Release Date

Given the film’s grand vision, it has been divided into two parts. Ramayana: Part 1 is set to hit theaters during Diwali 2026, while its second installment, Ramayana: Part 2, will be released during Diwali 2027.
