Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will flag off the Indian Ocean Vessel ‘Sagar’ (Security and Growth for All in the Region) from the strategically important Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka on Saturday. The aim of this initiative is to further strengthen India’s commitment to regional maritime security and international cooperation. Officials said that during this time Rajnath Singh will also inaugurate some new infrastructure recently developed at the naval base. The Navy is engaged in further expanding this base under ‘Project Seabird’.

INS Sunayana will become the carrier of Mission ‘Sagar’

Sharing the information on the social media platform ‘X’ on Saturday, the Defense Minister’s Office said that Rajnath Singh will send off ‘INS Sunayana’ as ‘IOS Sagar’, which will have a total of 44 naval personnel on board. A video has also been shared with this post, which shows the training processes done on both land and sea under this mission. The Defense Minister’s Office wrote, “IOS Sagar will play an important role in shaping the future of the Indian Ocean region and reiterate India’s commitment to strong relations with maritime neighbors.”

Maritime security and cooperation will get a new direction

Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) ‘Sagar’ is one of the continuous initiatives taken by India to promote cooperation with the countries of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Through this mission, India is making serious efforts towards creating a safe and inclusive maritime environment. This initiative is not just a demonstration of maritime power but also an effort to strengthen trust-based relations with India’s neighboring countries. There is a need to prepare the army for future challenges: Rajnath Singh

Earlier on Thursday, while addressing the semi-annual conference of top military commanders, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the army should be prepared for doctrinal changes in view of the changing geopolitical situation. He said that the army will have to make ‘dynamic plans’ to deal with long-term and short-term challenges keeping in mind the current global security scenario. He also said that along with conventional wars, asymmetric and ‘hybrid’ wars will also be part of future challenges. The government is fully committed to the modernization and reforms of the army.
