President Draupadi Murmu expressed her desire to visit the historic Patharughat in Darrang district of Assam. The site is known for the peasant uprising, where many farmers sacrificed their lives. The President said this while talking to farmer woman Dipati Sahariya during the reception organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of Independence Day.
Invitation to the only farmer woman from Assam
Dipti Sahariya, a resident of Jaljali Gadiyapara, Darrang, was the only farmer from Assam invited by the President to the function. She said that the President warmly welcomed all the guests. When he came to know that Dipati was a farmer, he immediately remembered the supreme sacrifices made at Patharughat and expressed his desire to visit the village in future.
The Prime Minister showed interest in the achievements of the farmers
On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with Dipati Sahariya. He inquired about her Mahila Kisan Utpadak Company ‘Chira Saji’ and wanted to know the number of women farmers associated with this company. Traditional dishes from across the country were served at the reception, including Assamese Pitha, specially presented on banana leaf.
