Politics or strategy? Is Amit Shah's visit to Assam an election clarion call or a strong message against encroachment?

Ahead of the assembly elections in Assam next year, the central government has taken a big step to protect the state’s lands from encroachment. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will reach Assam on August 29 and join the state government’s campaign. State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that large-scale encroached lands are being vacated in the state, especially those lands which were illegally occupied by Muslims of Bangladesh origin.

Cooperative societies to be formed at panchayat level

Chief Minister Sarma said that the state government will now form cooperative societies at every panchayat level. Vacant government land will be leased to these committees for agricultural work like farming and dairy. The objective is that farming starts on the vacant land and no one can encroach it. Amit Shah, who is also the Cooperative Minister, will address the panchayat members on this subject and inform them about the scheme.

Amit Shah’s program and inauguration of Raj Bhavan

During his visit, Amit Shah will first inaugurate the newly constructed Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister Sarma said that this will be the most beautiful and modern Raj Bhavan in the country. After this, Amit Shah will address the newly elected panchayat members of BJP and Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and discuss in detail the cooperative schemes of the state government.

Agriculture will be promoted to prevent encroachment

The government believes that if farming is started on government land, it will be used and no one will be able to occupy it. By forming committees at the panchayat level, every panchayat will be given land according to its need. These committees will also provide employment to the local people and this will also strengthen the rural economy.

Shah will participate in the birth centenary of Golap Borbora

In the evening, Amit Shah will participate in the program organized on the birth centenary of Golap Borbora, the first non-Congress Chief Minister of Assam. Borbora went to jail during the Emergency in 1975 and became the Chief Minister in 1977 by leading the Janata Party to victory in Assam. His tenure may have been short but he had brought about a historic change in the politics of the state.
