Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on December 20 and 21, 2025, to inaugurate major infrastructure projects and pay homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement. The two-day visit highlights the central government’s focus on boosting regional development, improving connectivity, and strengthening Assam’s industrial and economic landscape. During his stay, the Prime Minister is expected to interact with local leaders and officials, underlining the government’s commitment to both cultural preservation and economic growth in the Northeast region.
Inauguration of Guwahati’s Terminal 2
On December 20, PM Modi will inaugurate Terminal 2 at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, a project designed to showcase Assam’s rich cultural and natural heritage. The terminal’s architecture is inspired by the state’s iconic kopou phool (foxtail orchid) and traditional bamboo, alongside the Bamboo Orchids motif, blending modern infrastructure with local artistry. Capable of handling 13.1 million passengers annually, the facility aims to significantly improve regional connectivity while fostering economic integration across all eight North Eastern states. The terminal’s design was previously unveiled during the Advantage Assam 2.0 event, and its completion is seen as a milestone in Assam’s aviation and tourism sectors.
Paying Tribute to Assam Movement Martyrs
During his visit to Guwahati, PM Modi will also pay respects to the martyrs of the Assam Movement at the Swahid Smarak Khetra in Pachim Boragaon. He is expected to visit the state BJP headquarters, where he may engage with local leaders and party members to review ongoing development initiatives. The tribute ceremony underscores the government’s recognition of Assam’s socio-political history and its respect for the sacrifices made by those who fought for the state’s rights and identity. These ceremonial visits complement the Prime Minister’s developmental agenda, reflecting a balance between heritage preservation and forward-looking infrastructure projects.
Foundation Stone for Namrup Fertiliser Complex
On December 21, PM Modi will travel to Namrup in Dibrugarh district to lay the foundation stone for a new brownfield ammonia-urea complex at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (BVFCL). The project, with an estimated investment of around ₹12,000 crore, is expected to bolster Assam’s industrial base and ensure better fertiliser availability across the Northeast and eastern India. Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inspected the Namrup site on December 14 to review logistics, security, and overall preparedness for the foundation-laying event. The new complex is projected to create job opportunities, strengthen local industries, and enhance agricultural productivity in the region, marking a significant step toward Assam’s economic transformation.
