PM Modi Targets Congress Over Infiltration Allegations While Rallying BJP Workers in Assam

PM Narendra Modi on Monday stated that infiltration in Assam is not merely an electoral issue but one closely tied to safeguarding the state’s identity and national security. Addressing BJP booth-level workers virtually ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections, he alleged that the Indian National Congress had enabled illegal land grabbing by infiltrators. Modi emphasized that the issue goes beyond politics and directly impacts the social and economic fabric of the region, urging party workers to communicate this message effectively to voters.

Allegations Against Congress and Appeal to First-Time Voters

In his address, Modi claimed that areas where infiltrators settle often witness a shift in control over small businesses and local livelihoods away from residents. He urged BJP workers to actively engage with the public, particularly first-time voters, and explain what he described as the consequences of Congress’ “misrule.” According to him, even a small mistake in voting could set the state back in terms of development and stability. He also cautioned party workers to remain vigilant about illegal land encroachment issues and to share ground-level experiences with the electorate to strengthen awareness during the campaign.

Highlighting Peace, Development, and Northeast Agreements

Modi pointed to what he described as a transformation in Assam over the past decade under the BJP’s “double-engine” government, claiming that the state had moved toward greater peace and stability after years of prolonged unrest. He referred to multiple agreements signed in the Northeast under his government, asserting that they are being implemented effectively, unlike earlier accords under Congress that, according to him, failed to deliver results. Highlighting the Bodoland region as an example, he said it has transitioned from a history of curfews and violence to one of peace and development, serving as a model for progress in the region.

Grassroots Outreach, Welfare Schemes, and Election Context

The Prime Minister also instructed BJP workers to connect directly with people across constituencies, including tea garden communities, by organizing meetings and listening to their concerns. He highlighted welfare initiatives such as Assam’s Orunodoi scheme and the Lakhpati Didi programme, encouraging workers to communicate their benefits, especially to women voters. Modi further warned against the circulation of AI-generated videos during the election period, urging caution among party cadres. The upcoming elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled for April 9, with the BJP-led alliance, in power since 2016, seeking a third consecutive term amid a competitive political landscape.
