Palash Sen Breaks Silence on Arijit Singh’s Exit, Reveals Why Quitting Playback Makes Sense

Recently, Arijit Singh, one of Bollywood’s most popular and top singers, surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from playback singing. Many celebrities shared their opinions on the singer’s decision. Now, singer-composer Palash Sen has reacted to Arijit Singh’s decision to quit playback singing. He said that he understands the decision well, as he himself went through a similar phase at the beginning of his career.

Talking about his own journey, Palash said that he understands why Arijit has decided to move on, and he revealed that he had similar experiences in the film industry years ago and eventually decided to carve his own path away from films.

Palash Sen recounts his first film experience

On Instagram, Palash shared several pictures from his 2002 film “Filhaal,” which marked Meghna Gulzar’s directorial debut. The film also starred Sanjay Suri, Tabu, and Sushmita Sen. Sharing these pictures, Palash wrote, “24 years ago on this day, or maybe February 2nd, my first film as an actor, Filhaal, was released… It flopped… Most critics panned me and most film people trolled me… There was a particular model/actress who lectured me on why I shouldn’t be acting in films, as did many others.”

The “Maeri” singer said that “initially, I had no interest in films.” He said, “I did this film because I wanted to sing a song written by the all-time legend poet-writer Gulzar Sahab. The song was to be composed by the legendary Anu Malik, it was like my second dream come true, and that was it. I really don’t know why I was considered a threat.” He said that he just went to have fun and do his job “to the best of his ability.” Palash Sen further wrote, “I got the opportunity to work with the amazing Sushmita, Tabu, and Sanjay, and that was my reward. Finally, being directed by the brilliant Meghna was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I only have beautiful memories and I am very proud of the film from that time. In fact, now that it’s doing so well on TV, I feel very happy and good.”

Why did Arijit Singh quit playback singing?

He then spoke about Arijit Singh and his decision to quit playback singing. Palash wrote, “The truth is, I know why my brother, Arijit, is quitting film playback. I was there a long time ago and I chose my own path… the path I know Arijit will now follow.”

Palash further added, “Funny thing – that year I was nominated for all the Best Newcomer awards… including Filmfare… of course, I didn’t win anything. Even Euphoria never won anything. But you know, the people of this country gave me so much love… far more than any award and even more than that model?? Hahahaha.”

Arijit Singh announced quitting playback singing in a post

It’s worth noting that on January 27, Arijit announced that he would no longer be taking on any new work as a playback singer. He wrote in a post, “Hello everyone, Happy New Year. It was a wonderful journey.”
