Minister Ranoj Pegu officially launched his election campaign on Wednesday from Aadikoliya village in Dhemaji district, close to the Arunachal Pradesh border. Addressing the media, he highlighted the region’s developmental gaps, particularly in infrastructure and education, and outlined key initiatives aimed at bridging these gaps. Pegu described the area as underdeveloped and emphasized the need for sustained government intervention to improve basic facilities for residents. “This is a backward area near the Arunachal border, and we are beginning our campaign from Aadikoliya. One of the key priorities has been to improve connectivity. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, we are successfully linking villages in this region,” he said.
Road Projects to Enhance Connectivity
A major focus of Pegu’s campaign was improving road connectivity in the hilly stretches of Dhemaji district. The minister announced that a road project connecting remote areas to Silapathar has already been sanctioned, with construction scheduled to start soon. “A road along the foothills connecting to Silapathar has been approved. The groundwork has been completed, and construction will commence shortly, which will significantly ease movement for the people here,” he added. Pegu emphasized that such initiatives are essential for integrating border villages with district hubs, facilitating access to markets, healthcare, and other services, while also contributing to overall socio-economic development.
Expanding Educational Infrastructure in Remote Areas
Education was another key focus of Pegu’s campaign. He highlighted the absence of higher secondary schools in several regions, including Lakhipathar, North Dhemaji, and Bishnupur, which has limited opportunities for students in these areas. To address this, the minister proposed establishing a model degree college that would provide higher education access to youth in these underserved regions. “There are no higher secondary schools in Lakhipathar, North Dhemaji, and Bishnupur. To address this gap, we have proposed setting up a model degree college to ensure better access to higher education for students in these regions,” Pegu stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to long-term human development.
Campaign Focus on Development and Voter Priorities
Pegu emphasized that combining improved road connectivity with expanded educational infrastructure would be crucial for the overall development of Dhemaji district, particularly in remote and border areas. These announcements form a central part of his campaign strategy as he seeks to address voter concerns directly. Connectivity challenges and lack of educational facilities remain significant issues among local residents, making these initiatives politically and socially relevant. The campaign launch in Aadikoliya reflects Pegu’s approach of highlighting tangible development projects to strengthen his electoral prospects while promising targeted interventions for the region’s growth.
