A film focused on women’s safety
Produced by Aditya Chopra, Mardaani 3 continues the franchise’s legacy of hard-hitting, socially relevant storytelling. While Mardaani shed light on the grim world of human trafficking and Mardaani 2 explored the terrifying mind of a brutal serial offender, the third installment tackles another dark and crucial social issue, reinforcing the series’ reputation for impactful, issue-driven cinema. Written by Ayush Gupta, Mardaani 3 also features Janki Bodiwala and Mallika Prasad. The story centers on Rani’s character, Shivani, as she investigates the case of 93 young girls who have gone missing in the last three months. The first film, Mardaani, released in 2014, was directed by Pradeep Sarkar. Mardaani 2 was directed by Gopi Puthran.
What is the film’s story?
The film’s story begins with the kidnapping of a high-profile VIP’s daughter and the daughter of a maid working in her household. Rani Mukerji reprises her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy. After making a powerful entry in a case involving the trafficking of women for drugs, Shivani takes charge of this “save the daughter” case. During her investigation, Shivani becomes entangled in a deep and terrifying conspiracy. One crime after another is uncovered, all leading back to a formidable matriarch, Amma (Mallika Prasad). Just as Shivani believes she is getting closer to the truth, she realizes the case is far more complex than it appears. Numerous crimes, previously buried beneath the surface, come to light. The abuse of trust and power, the revelation of bitter truths, and the raising of crucial social issues form the heart of this film.
