Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP of Electoral Manipulation in Assam Assembly Elections Rally Speech

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that the party brought large numbers of outsiders to influence voting in the Assam Assembly elections. Speaking at an election rally in Tentulia in North 24 Parganas district, she said the BJP does not have enough confidence to win purely on the basis of votes from Assam residents. Her remarks have added further intensity to the already heated political exchanges between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP ahead of upcoming elections in West Bengal.

“Trainload of Outsiders” Claim Sparks Political Controversy

Banerjee alleged that the BJP transported around 50,000 people from Uttar Pradesh to Assam during the polling process. She used this claim to question the fairness and transparency of the electoral exercise, suggesting that outside influence was being used to tilt the outcome. The allegation has triggered sharp political reactions, as the BJP has repeatedly dismissed such claims as baseless and politically motivated. Banerjee also used strong language against the party, stating that even a snake could be trusted but not the BJP, reflecting the deepening political hostility between the two sides.

Allegations Against Central Agencies and Voter Roll Revisions

Expanding her criticism beyond elections, Banerjee accused central investigative and constitutional agencies of losing their independence under the BJP-led central government. She alleged that these institutions are no longer functioning impartially and are being influenced politically. She also raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, claiming that nearly 90 lakh names were removed. According to her, 60 lakh of these belonged to Hindus and 30 lakh to Muslims, which she cited as evidence of alleged bias in the process.

NRC Reference and Assam Election Context Intensifies Debate

The TMC leader also referred to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise in Assam to support her criticism of the BJP, alleging that the process had disproportionately affected Hindus. She claimed that during the NRC update, 19 lakh names were removed, including 13 lakh Hindus and 6 lakh Muslims, using these figures to question the credibility of the ruling party’s policies. Meanwhile, the Assam Assembly elections for all 126 constituencies were conducted in a single phase, with the Election Commission reporting a final voter turnout of 85.91%. The results are now awaited, even as political narratives across states continue to intensify.
