Assam is soon going to build a new space center for space-related activities. Recently, Science and Technology Minister of Assam Government Keshab Mahanta and ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan made a joint inspection visit to the state. The purpose of this visit is to establish a multi-purpose center in Assam, which will not only strengthen the security of India’s space assets but will also help in meteorological consultation services. The Assam government has promised full support to this project, making it an important center for India’s space program.
Space museum to be built in Assam, ISRO will provide technical assistance
To promote space research, Minister Keshab Mahanta also expressed his desire to build a space museum in Assam, which can provide information about space science to students and the general public. ISRO chief V. Narayanan welcomed the idea and assured technical support. This will not only promote scientific research but will also help in making Assam one of the major science centers of India. This center can create huge opportunities for the young scientists and students of the state.
Assam’s own satellite ‘ASSAMSAT’ is ready
The Assam government is also working on its first satellite “ASSAMSAT” in collaboration with ISRO. It will help in important tasks like agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development and border security. The satellite will be operated from Guwahati and will consist of a constellation of low-earth orbit satellites. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam will be the first state in India to have its own satellite, which will strengthen the state’s monitoring of illegal infiltration and disaster management preparedness.
Technology and IT sector expanding rapidly in Assam
Apart from the space sector, Assam is also witnessing huge interest from tech and IT companies. Reliance Industries recently announced an investment of Rs 50,000 crore in Assam, which will be used for AI (artificial intelligence), nuclear energy and data centres. Mukesh Ambani said that “AI” does not only mean artificial intelligence but also “Assam intelligence”. Infosys has also launched a 230-member project development centre in Guwahati. This could prove to be an important step towards turning Assam into a major IT hub of India.
