The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam has made a serious allegation against the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) of abandoning its ideology and surrendering to the Congress party. State BJP chief spokesperson Kishore Upadhyay launched a scathing attack on AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and said that now there is no difference between Congress and AJP. He said that the policies of both are only engaged in vote bank politics, especially in trying to woo Muslims of East Bengal origin.
Questions raised on AJP’s policies regarding return of land to local people
Kishore Upadhyay said that at a time when the local people of Assam are welcoming the removal of encroachment on government land, forest area, reservoir and PGR-VGR on the initiative of the BJP coalition led government, AJP leader Gogoi has insulted his own people by pretending to be nationalist. He is supporting these encroachers by singing in tune with the Congress. Upadhyay called it a big threat to Assamese nationalism. He says that AJP has taken this step only to get Miya votes in the 2026 elections.

Concern over political dominance by Muslims of East Bengal origin
The BJP spokesperson alleged that Muslims of East Bengal origin are weakening the position of the local people by occupying government land, tribal areas and forest areas of Assam. He said that in nine districts these occupiers have become more influential than the local people. By occupying, they are getting electoral power by registering their names in the voter list. In this way they are trying to capture the politics of Assam. Kishore Upadhyay said that Lurinjyoti Gogoi is indifferent to the interests of the local population.
Targeting Congress and AJP for occupying Satra land
Kishore Upadhyay also said that Muslims of East Bengal origin have also occupied Satra (Satra) land, on which the Congress has been turning a blind eye for a long time. During the rule of Congress, these people settled on government and forest land and Congress used them as a vote bank. He said it was very unfortunate that Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who once led a movement against such activities for six years from the platform of Assam Students Union, was now supporting a party that opposes action against encroachers for political ambition.
BJP’s policy to give land rights to locals
Kishore Upadhyay said the BJP’s policy is to give land rights to every landless Assamese and Indian citizen without any compromise. He said while Gogoi is demanding that Indian citizens should also be evicted, the BJP’s policy protects the interests of the people and they will continue to fight for their rights. He warned the AJP that doing politics at the cost of the interests of the local population is dangerous for the country and Assam.
