Assam News: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Assam on Sunday night for a two-day visit during which he will inaugurate several key projects and address a public gathering. Officials confirmed that Shah will land in Guwahati and stay overnight at the State Guest House in Koinadhara. The visit is being viewed as significant, as it combines tributes to Assam’s history, cultural initiatives, and major steps to strengthen urban security infrastructure in the state.

Tribute to Assam Movement Martyrs and Visit to Batadrava Than

On Monday morning, the Home Minister will pay homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement against infiltration at the newly constructed Swahid Smarak Kshetra. The memorial honours those who laid down their lives during the historic agitation. Following this, Shah will travel to Batadrava Than in Nagaon district, the birthplace of revered Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva. There, he will inaugurate a cultural development project at the spiritual site. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier stated that the state government has restored the sanctity and grandeur of Batadrava Than by clearing encroachments, calling it a strong example of protecting Assam’s cultural and religious heritage.

Boost to Guwahati’s Security Infrastructure

After returning to Guwahati, Shah will inaugurate the new building of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate along with an Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS). The ICCS is designed to significantly enhance the city’s security and emergency response capabilities. According to Chief Minister Sarma, the system will monitor over 2,000 CCTV cameras installed across Guwahati, enabling real-time surveillance and quicker response to emergencies. Calling it a major boost to public safety, Sarma said the project reflects the government’s focus on using technology to strengthen law enforcement and urban security.

Cultural Inauguration and Public Rally

On the same day, Amit Shah will also inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex in Guwahati, a large auditorium with a seating capacity of around 5,000 people. The complex is expected to serve as an important cultural and public events venue for the city. Shah is scheduled to address a public rally at the complex, where he is likely to outline the central government’s vision and initiatives for Assam and the Northeast. After completing his engagements, the Home Minister will depart for New Delhi, concluding his two-day visit to the state.
