DUSU Elections 2025: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won a landslide victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections this year. The ABVP captured three key positions, including the president, while the Congress-affiliated student organization, the NSUI, managed only the vice-president position. Compared to the previous election, the NSUI lost one seat, and the president’s position also slipped away from the ABVP. This time, Aryan Mann became the DUSU president. With this victory, the ABVP has strengthened its organization’s hold in the university and further cemented its image in student politics.
The Importance and Budget of the Presidential Position
Students may be interested to know that the position of DUSU president does not carry any salary or monthly allowance. This means that Aryan Mann will not receive any direct pay. However, this position comes with a significant budget. The winning organization receives a total budget of ₹20 lakh, which is used for student union activities, cultural programs, events, and research projects. This amount is not spent for personal gain, but in the interest of the students and the university.
Election and Tenure
This year, voting in the DUSU elections took place on Thursday, with a voter turnout of 39.45 percent. Kunal Chaudhary won the post of Secretary and Deepika Jha won the post of Joint Secretary. ABVP candidates were leading in all key positions from the first round, and the final vote count confirmed their victory. NSUI’s sole winner, Rahul Jhansal, became Vice President. The tenure of the DUSU President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary is 11 months. New elections are held in the 12th month. Student organizations field candidates for these positions.
