Assam Police has arrested a drug smuggler in the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) area of Silchar on the basis of an intelligence input. 622 grams of heroin has been recovered from him, which is estimated to be worth around Rs 3.11 crore in the international market. The arrest came when the police conducted a precise operation keeping an eye on suspicious activities in the ISBT area. The arrested person is being questioned to reveal the network hidden behind him.
Chief Minister praised, said – will eradicate drug addiction
Information about this operation was shared by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma himself on social media. He said, “We will eliminate drug addiction, not let drug addiction destroy you.” Appreciating the action of the police, the Chief Minister said that the state government is working on a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drug trafficking and such campaigns will be intensified in future as well. Sarma also told that the main objective of the Assam government is to save the youth from the trap of drugs and uproot the root of crime.

Silchar ISBT becomes a secret hub of smuggling, police increased vigilance
According to the police report, the ISBT area of Silchar has now become an important transit point for drug smugglers. Due to its geographical location and heavy traffic, smugglers try to send goods easily from here. But the police have now increased vigilance in this area. Suspicious vehicles and people are being constantly checked. In recent weeks, many small and big operations have been carried out here, which have given many clues of drug smuggling.
The statewide anti-drugs campaign has given sleepless nights to criminals
The campaign against drugs in Assam for the last few months has given sleepless nights to criminals. So far, hundreds of kilos of drugs have been seized across the state and dozens of smugglers have been sent behind bars. The police and other agencies are conducting operations in a precise manner based on secret information so that the entire network can be broken. Officials say that this is just the beginning and the government’s goal is to completely eradicate the drug trade.
