Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again targeted Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi. On Tuesday, he raised the question why Gogoi went to Pakistan and why he asked such questions in Parliament which could be considered in favor of the Pakistan Army. He also alleged that the questions raised by Gogoi in Parliament were on sensitive issues related to the security of the country and Pakistan could benefit from it. This statement of Himanta Biswa Sarma came at a time when unity is being seen in the country regarding Pakistan.
Gogoi’s counterattack and the reality of his questions in Parliament
Gaurav Gogoi described the allegations of Chief Minister Sarma as “low politics”. He said that at a time when the whole country is united against Pakistan, Sarma is trying to take political advantage. If we look at Gogoi’s record in Parliament, he has raised questions on many important issues including defense, foreign policy, agriculture, internet shutdown and local issues of Assam. According to PRS Legislative Research, Gogoi has asked more questions than the national and state average in all three Lok Sabha terms so far.

Important issues raised in the first and second term
After becoming an MP for the first time, Gogoi visited the Pakistan High Commission in 2015, after which he asked questions on coastal security, radar system and investigation of Pathankot attack. This was raised by BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok in February 2025. However, in response to these questions, the Defense Ministry said that since the 26/11 attack, the government has taken several steps to strengthen coastal security. Apart from this, Gogoi also raised issues like data of students studying in Kashmir, visa rules for Bangladeshis, minimum wages of tea garden workers of Assam, and India-China border dispute. In the second term, he also presented private bills which were three times more than the national average.
Activity continues in the third term as well
Gaurav Gogoi asked questions on issues related to internet shutdown, climate change, agriculture, trade and workers at the beginning of his third term. He sought detailed data related to internet shutdown in August 2024 and sought information from the government about its possible impact on India-UK FTA in April 2025. Along with this, he also questioned the difficulties faced by the transgender community in accessing health services. In foreign affairs, he also raised his voice in Parliament on relations with Afghanistan and India-China trade deficit.
