Assam: Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced at a program in Guwahati that the goal of the central government is to make all the villages of the country poverty free. He appealed to the people to take full advantage of the social welfare schemes of the Center. Chouhan said that the aim of the BJP government is not just to gain power but to serve the people. He informed that 55,000 houses built in Assam under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) have been handed over to the beneficiaries and this is just the beginning. He praised the progress made in this scheme of Assam and said that 3.76 lakh more houses will be built in the state this year.

‘Lakhim Mistri’ scheme launched to empower women

In the program, Shivraj Singh Chouhan also launched a new scheme ‘Lakhim Mistri’. The aim of this scheme is to train women as masons so that they can get new employment opportunities in this field. Chouhan said that till the time women are not self-reliant, there will be no real progress of the society. Through this scheme, women in rural areas will get technical skills and they will also be able to build their own houses. He also said that women empowerment is at the top of the government’s priorities and this scheme is a strong step in that direction.

Agriculture sector will get a new base – inauguration of 21 knowledge centers

On this occasion, Chauhan also virtually inaugurated 21 knowledge centers built in the state under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). These centers will help in ensuring timely availability of modern information and resources to the farmers. Its objective is to strengthen the rural agricultural infrastructure so that the income of farmers can increase. In these centers, new techniques related to farming, crop cycle, market related information and information about government schemes will be directly delivered to the farmers. This will change the traditional structure of farming and farmers will become more self-reliant.

Chief Minister and ministers expressed gratitude to the central government

At the event, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to the central government and said that the state government is also fully committed to empowering farmers, women and rural communities. He said that the aim of the government is to make rural Assam self-reliant through sustainable development in the field of agriculture and livelihood. The Chief Minister also said that such schemes will give a new direction to the rural economy. State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and Rural Development Minister Ranjit Kumar Das were also present in the program and they also praised the schemes of the Center.
