Congress has raised serious questions on the ongoing eviction action in Assam. Senior party leader Ripun Bora has termed it an election conspiracy. He says that the BJP government is trying to divide the Hindu-Muslim communities. He alleged that ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma is resorting to communal politics to mislead the public. This statement has created a stir in the state politics.
Congress raised questions on the timing of the action
Ripun Bora also raised the question that when it has been almost a decade since the BJP came to power in the state, why the eviction action was suddenly started now. He called it a well-thought-out strategy. Bora said that now when the government saw all other tactics failing, it has chosen the path of spreading hatred among the communities. He claims that this step is being taken only to gain electoral benefits.

Accusation of ignoring humanity
The Congress says that the Supreme Court has a clear guideline that rehabilitation and humane process should be adopted before any eviction. But what is happening in Assam is far from justice. Ripun Bora said that the people who are being removed have neither food nor facilities for the education of children. He also alleged that firing is being done at some places, which is a blatant violation of human rights.
Accusation of making the state a battlefield
Ripun Bora attacked the Chief Minister sharply and said that he is behaving as if he is fighting a war against an enemy country. He said that the atmosphere of the state is being deliberately pushed into a war-like situation. This is not only endangering the safety of citizens but also hurting the soul of democracy. The Congress says that this strategy is against democratic values.
Appeal to answer in elections
The Congress has appealed to the people to stand against this eviction policy and answer it in the upcoming elections. The party says that Assam does not need such politics but unity and development. He said that now the time has come when the people should respond with the power of their vote and strengthen democracy again.
