The Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a very unique initiative for its employees. The state government has announced that in November 2025, employees will be given two days of Special Casual Leave so that they can spend time with their parents and in-laws. This initiative has been named ‘Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme’. This leave can be taken on 14 November (Friday) and 15 November (Saturday). With this, by adding the leave of 16 November (Sunday), the employees will be able to spend three days with their family.
Objective of Matri-Pitri Vandana Yojana
The main objective of this scheme is to underline the importance of parents and strengthen family values. In today’s busy life, many people are not able to spend time with their parents. In such a situation, this initiative of the government will not only give mental peace to the employees but will also provide them an opportunity to connect with their family and elders. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this scheme in his first Independence Day speech (2021). Now this scheme is being officially implemented.

Application process
According to the notification issued by the government, employees will be able to apply through a special portal to avail these leaves. All the processes will be completed under the prescribed guidelines. The Governor has also approved this proposal. It has been clearly stated that this leave is especially for spending time with parents and in-laws. This step is being considered commendable in the direction of making the family life and social engagement of the employees more deep.
Effect on family and society
This initiative of the Assam government can also become an inspiration for other states of the country. While this will give mental peace and balance to the employees, the elderly will also feel respect and belonging. This step will prove to be helpful in strengthening family relations in the society and reviving traditional values. It has been observed for a long time that the distance between families is increasing in the modern lifestyle, but such schemes can work to unite the family. Undoubtedly, this initiative of the Assam government is a historic step from a social and emotional point of view.
