CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's big statement: There will be a difference between Zubeen Garg's true fans and political aspirants

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday clarified that the state BJP’s campaign, “Moi O Zubeen’or Anuragi, Ami O Zubeen’or Anuragi,” aims to gather true fans of the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg and preserve his music, art, and legacy respectfully and purposefully. Speaking to reporters during his first visit to Baksa district after the violence at the district jail, the Chief Minister said the campaign aims to weed out those who are using Zubeen’s name for political or personal gain, and to identify genuine fans.

Attempt to Identify Real Fans

CM Sarma said, “After Zubeen’s demise, some people have emerged who used to criticize him when he was alive but are now making noise in his name. Our ‘Moi O Zubeen’ campaign is an attempt to identify those who truly loved Garg and want to continue his work.” Citing the Baksa incident, he said that during the October 15 protest, a man admitted that he had never heard Jubin’s songs. This clearly shows that some people are misusing his name. Sarma appealed to true fans to rise above politics and preserve Jubin’s values, music, and dreams.

Steps to Carry Forward Jubin Garg’s Legacy

The government reiterated its commitment to honor the memory of the late artist. The Chief Minister said that BJP workers will take concrete steps to complete Jubin Garg’s unfinished projects. This includes building music schools, installing statues of Jubin Garg, and planting Nahor trees in the premises of every BJP worker. The Nahor trees will symbolize Garg’s love for the soil and nature of Assam. The Chief Minister appealed to the people to trust the justice system, and that the government and judiciary are jointly ensuring a fair and speedy investigation into Jubin Garg’s death. He said the High Court has initiated an investigation and that hearings will be conducted regularly through a fast-track court.

A Message of Solidarity and Positive Memory

In closing, Sarma urged Zubin Garg’s fans to focus on solidarity and constructive memory rather than divisive rhetoric. He said, “Zubin Garg belonged to everyone. The best way to honor him is to spread positivity, nurture his artistic vision, and keep his ideals alive.” According to the Chief Minister, this campaign is not merely for political or personal gain, but an effort to promote Assam’s cultural heritage and the indelible mark of Zubin Garg. This message made it clear that the state government places the highest priority on cultural preservation and the united support of fans.
