CM Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam Police has achieved another major success in the campaign being run against drugs in the state. During an operation in Sribhumi district, the police recovered 324 grams of heroin, which is said to be worth around Rs 2 crore. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave this information on the social media platform X and praised the Karimganj Police. The operation was conducted in Mundamala area of Patharkandi police station area from where three suspected drug smugglers were arrested. The Chief Minister wrote that this is an example of his government’s zero tolerance policy which is being strictly implemented against drug trafficking.
Big drug seizure also made in Manipur
Chief Minister Sarma said that for the safety of the youth and the society, the state government has further intensified surveillance and action, especially on the routes which are adjacent to other northeastern states. In this episode, Assam Rifles conducted an operation in Noni district of Manipur and recovered 569.24 grams of heroin and a large quantity of amphetamine and methamphetamine tablets. The drug smuggler caught was travelling in a truck on National Highway 37 from Imphal to Jiribam. After receiving information from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Assam Rifles had increased vigilance and the suspicious vehicle was stopped. When the vehicle was searched, narcotic material hidden in 50 soap boxes and 49 sachets was found, which was valued at around Rs 5 crore.
BSF took action in Mizoram
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force i.e. BSF in Mizoram conducted a search operation on the joint input of Mizoram and Cachar Frontier. This search operation was conducted in Vairengte area of Kolasib district of Mizoram which is adjacent to southern Assam. During this, 7.042 kg of pseudoephedrine tablets were recovered, which is a precursor chemical and its value was said to be around Rs 7.04 lakh. It is clear from these continuous seizures that the network of drug smuggling is spread in the Northeast but the security agencies are conducting the operation with full vigilance.
Government’s zero tolerance policy continues
Chief Minister Sarma has made it clear that the state government’s zero tolerance policy against drugs will continue. He said that the government is putting in all its efforts to save the youth from this quagmire and special vigil is being kept on the borders. Recent operations have proved that the security agencies are working with full preparation and drug smugglers will not get any relief. The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to immediately inform the police if they get information about drugs or suspicious activity anywhere so that the society can be saved from this threat.
