Alert Border Security Force (BSF) personnel foiled an infiltration attempt by a large group of Bangladeshi nationals early this morning at the India-Bangladesh international border in South Salmara Mankachar district. The BSF said in a statement that as soon as the soldiers noticed suspicious activities, immediate action was taken. The people coming from Bangladesh had the intention to enter the Indian border but the BSF personnel challenged them and stopped their infiltration. After this, the Bangladeshi crowd returned to the Bangladesh border.
BSF denies reports of pushing back 14 intruders
Media reports were claiming that the BSF had tried to push back about 14 intruders during which this clash took place. However, the BSF officially rejected this claim. The force made it clear that they maintain high vigilance and professional attitude at all times on the border so that they can face every challenge. The BSF says that they are constantly fulfilling their responsibility regarding security on the India-Bangladesh border and no unauthorized intrusion will be tolerated.
India increased efforts to push back Bangladeshis
This infiltration attempt has come at a time when India has intensified its efforts to push back illegal Bangladeshi citizens. Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) officials in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka told the media that since May 7, India has pushed back about 742 Bangladeshi citizens. Of these, 664 persons were pushed back by India from the borders of Khagrachhari, Kurigram, Sylhet, Maulvibazar, Habiganj, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Comilla, Feni and Jhenaidah districts. Apart from this, 78 others were pushed back from the remote forest areas of Mandarbaria in Sundarbans.
172 Bangladeshis were returned in just one night
According to BGB officials, a total of 172 Bangladeshi citizens were sent back by India from the borders of Meherpur, Sylhet and Maulvibazar between Saturday night and Sunday alone. These figures show that in recent times, illegal movement activities have increased significantly on the border between the two countries. According to the BSF, their effort is to stop every infiltration and maintain law and order on the border. In the coming days, the BSF and other agencies will increase vigilance on the border so that there is no lapse in security.
