The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam’s hill districts is intensifying its preparations for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. A series of high-level meetings have been conducted recently with a focus on strengthening grassroots organization and reviewing the progress of development projects in the region. These gatherings aim to ensure that the party is well-positioned to retain and expand its influence in the hill areas during the next polls.
Key Meeting in Diphu with Karbi Anglong Leadership
On January 6, Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika led an important meeting in Diphu with the Karbi Anglong team. The meeting was attended by several prominent leaders, including Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso, multiple MLAs, Executive Members, and Members of Autonomous Council from KAAC. The two district BJP presidents were also present. Discussions primarily revolved around election strategies and monitoring the progress of ongoing developmental projects in the hill districts, reflecting the party’s focus on combining political and developmental agendas.
Administrative Focus at Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Meeting
The very next day, on January 7, the 24th Executive Meeting of the 13th Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council took place in Diphu under the chairmanship of KAAC Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang. This session focused on addressing administrative and developmental issues affecting the district. Such council meetings are vital in ensuring effective governance and seamless execution of projects that contribute to regional progress and political goodwill.
District-Level Meetings Emphasize Grassroots Strengthening
Alongside these high-profile gatherings, district-level BJP executive meetings were also held separately in the two hill districts. In West Karbi Anglong, the meeting was held at the party office in Ghelani, Dongkamukam, presided over by District BJP President Radip Ronghang. Meanwhile, in Karbi Anglong district, the session took place at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Diphu under the leadership of Roland Killing. Both meetings stressed the importance of bolstering the party’s grassroots presence and making thorough preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections, expected in April or May. Party insiders hint at the possibility of new candidates being introduced to bring fresh energy and widen the party’s appeal in this strategically important region.
