In this financial year, GTAC sold 169.13 million kg of tea, with a total turnover of Rs 3,850 crore. This is Rs 800 crore more than last year. Dinesh Bihani, Secretary, Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, informed about this achievement on Tuesday and said that in the financial year 2023-24, GTAC had sold 166.34 million kg of tea, with a total turnover of Rs 3,048 crore and the average price was Rs 183.21 per kg. But this time the average price of tea increased and the turnover also increased by Rs 800 crore.

Small tea producers are getting benefit from the increase in tea prices

Dinesh Bihani said that the increase in tea prices in GTAC has also affected small tea producers. He said, “The increase in tea prices means that the price of green leaves will also increase, and this is also benefiting the small tea growers of the state.” There are more than 1.22 lakh small tea growers in Assam, whose tea land is 1,14,847.89 hectares and contributes about 52 percent of the total tea production of the state. Apart from this, he also told that in the last four years, a special tea ‘Golden Tips’ from Manohari tea garden had broken the record of selling at a price of Rs 1 lakh per kg in GTAC.

Export of Assam tea increased, and expected to be even better in the coming financial year

Dinesh Bihani also said that for the upcoming financial year 2025-26, they are expecting Assam tea to be good. He told, “Our exports have also increased and now many big buyers are coming to GTAC. Recently, tea from Dhekiajuli tea garden was sold at a price of Rs 606 per kg.” He also said that the government’s initiative has also increased the production of quality tea, due to which Assam tea is also getting a name in the global market.

GTAC Tea Lounge did a turnover of more than Rs 1 crore in 2024-25

Along with this, GTAC Tea Lounge also did a turnover of more than Rs 1 crore from tea promotion and retail activities in the financial year 2024-25. Assam is the largest tea producing state in India and this state produces more than 50 percent of the total tea of ​​the country. Assam tea has completed its glorious journey of 200 years, and now it is moving towards further progress. The success of GTAC and the increasing demand for Assam tea indicate that Assam’s position in the tea industry is getting even stronger.
