Assam: The future of ex-servicemen will change in Assam, Skill University extends a hand of friendship!

Assam Skill University has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Government of Assam on 29 May. The agreement was signed between Vice Chancellor of Assam Skill University Subhash Das and Director of Directorate of Sainik Welfare Brigadier Palash Choudhary (Retd). The main objective of this partnership is to combine the discipline and practical experience acquired by retired soldiers during years of service with industry-focused skill training and certification so that they can successfully step into civilian life.

Focus on career development of retired soldiers

This initiative focuses specifically on the rehabilitation and career development of ex-servicemen who retire at a relatively young age and have 15–20 years of active work capacity left. Under this program, they will be given new-age skills and recognized certificates so that they can easily enter the civilian job sector. This will not only give them economic stability but also a new identity and purpose. Under this partnership, employment prospects will increase in industry, reserved government services and public sector undertakings (PSUs).

Widows and dependents of martyrs will get benefits

The most important thing is that the benefits of this MoU will not be limited only to ex-servicemen but their widows and dependents will also get its benefits. Special guidance and training will be arranged for them so that they can also become self-reliant and live a life with respect in the society. This program will show them the path of a permanent career, which will not only strengthen their economic condition but will also increase social inclusion. For its smooth implementation, District Sainik Welfare Officer of Darang district Colonel PN Giri (Retd) and Deputy Registrar of Assam Skill University Jagdish Nath have been appointed as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) from both sides.

At the MoU signing ceremony, Vice Chancellor of Assam Skill University Subhash Das said that we have to recognize the special skills of ex-servicemen and prepare it in accordance with new employment opportunities. He said that their discipline, leadership ability and technical expertise can be very beneficial in the civilian sector. On the other hand, Director Sainik Welfare Brigadier Palash Choudhary (Retd) appreciated the partnership and said that this initiative is an important step towards enhancing the dignity and livelihood of ex-servicemen and their families. He said that this partnership can not only change lives but can also make a significant contribution to nation building. This initiative reflects the progressive thinking of Assam which is committed to strongly support its ex-servicemen community.
