Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday informed that three Bangladeshi intruders were caught on the state border and immediately sent back from the international border. This action was taken in Sribhumi district of Assam where surveillance has been intensified on the border with Bangladesh. The Chief Minister appreciated this action and thanked the Assam Police.
A woman was also involved
Chief Minister Sarma told on Twitter that a woman was also among the three people caught. He said in clear words that illegal immigrants will not be welcomed in India. The government will not allow any non-Indian to enter the country and action will be taken under strict law on such attempts.
267.5 km long sensitive border
Assam’s Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri and South Salmara-Mankachar districts share a 267.5 km long international border with Bangladesh. This border has become the center of illegal infiltration and smuggling incidents many times. This is the reason why vigilance is always considered necessary here and Assam Police along with Border Security Force (BSF) has increased surveillance.

Monitoring is done through Integrated Check Post
A major Integrated Check Post (ICP) is present on the Bangladesh border in this area at Sutarkandi in Sribhumi. Apart from this, two other ICPs in Northeast India are at Dawki in Meghalaya and Agartala-Akhaura in Tripura. An ICP is also functioning at Darranga in Assam on the India-Bhutan border which strengthens the security system.
Relief on the return of Indian citizens
However, after the political crisis in Bangladesh, Assam Police has made it clear that Indian passport holders will be allowed to return to their country safely. But any foreign citizen trying to enter the country illegally will not be spared and action will be taken under strict law.
