Manipur Police on Saturday detained two people in connection with the attack on an Assam Rifles convoy. The attack, which took place on Friday evening in Nambol Sabal Leikai, left two soldiers dead and five others injured. Police said the suspected vehicle used in the attack has also been recovered.

Suspicious Vehicle Recovered, Investigation Underway

Manipur Police reported that the silver-blue van used in the attack was recovered in Matum Yangbi, Imphal West district, about 10 kilometers from the site of the attack. Preliminary investigations have identified several owners of the vehicle, and efforts are underway to gather more information. Security forces launched a massive operation in the Shantipur and Ishok areas.

Governor Holds High-Level Review Meeting

The day after the attack, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a high-level security review meeting at Raj Bhavan, Imphal. The meeting discussed the September 19 attack in Bishnupur district. Sub-Inspector Shyam Gurung (58) and Rifleman GD Kashaw (29) were martyred in the firing on soldiers of the 33rd Assam Rifles, while five others were injured. The meeting emphasized measures to enhance coordination among security agencies, conduct intensive patrolling, and tighten security in sensitive areas.

Paid Tribute to the Martyrs

Following the review meeting, the Governor visited the IGAR (South) Headquarters in Mantripukhri and paid tribute to the martyred soldiers. He laid a wreath and a general salute was given to honor the martyrs. On this occasion, the families of the martyrs were consoled and their sacrifices were remembered.

Manipur Government Expresses Grief and Offers Compensation

The Manipur government strongly condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the families of the martyrs. The state government announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh to the families of the martyrs and ₹2 lakh to the seriously injured soldiers. In addition, additional assistance will be provided for the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured. The government made it clear that such violent acts would not be tolerated and every effort would be made to restore peace and stability in the state.
