Assam Politics: The next battle of politics is decided! Dates of Panchayat elections announced in Assam!

Assam Politics: In a major political win, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a landslide victory in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections in Assam. Out of the total 36 seats, the NDA bagged 33 seats, leaving the opposition far behind. The Assam State Election Commission confirmed that the Congress managed to win just one seat. The BJP won six seats on its own, while its ally Rabha Hasong Jotho Sangram Samiti emerged as the big winner with 27 seats. Additionally, two independent candidates also secured victories.

BJP’s Winning Seats and CEM’s Resounding Victory

The BJP registered victories in the following constituencies: 02-Kothakuthi, 15-Agia, 22-Bondapara, 30-Bamunigaon, 35-Silputa, and 20-Joyramkuchi — the latter going uncontested. Meanwhile, Rabha Hasong Jotho Sangram Samiti’s leader Tankeshwar Rabha retained his seat from No-7 South Dudhnoi. He received a massive 7,164 votes, defeating Congress candidate Sanjib Kumar Rabha, who could manage only 1,593 votes. With this, Tankeshwar Rabha is all set to continue as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the council.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Celebrates Victory

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to express his joy over the results. In a tweet, he said, “Saffron wave in Assam again! We heartily thank the people of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council who supported the welfare policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially for tribal communities. NDA won 33/36 seats.” The victory is being seen as a strong endorsement of the BJP-led alliance’s efforts for tribal welfare and development in the region.

Panchayat Election Schedule Announced

In other political developments, the Assam State Election Commission has announced the schedule for the upcoming panchayat elections. Voting will be held in two phases — May 2 in 14 districts and May 7 in 13 districts. The counting of votes for both phases will take place on May 11. Over 1.80 crore voters are expected to participate, including 90.71 lakh men, 89.65 lakh women, and 408 voters from the third gender. A total of 25,007 polling stations have been set up for this large-scale democratic exercise. The nomination process runs from April 3 to April 11, with scrutiny on April 12 and the last date for withdrawal on April 17. Voters will elect members at the Village Panchayat, Zonal Panchayat, and District Council levels.
