Assam Politics: A video has sparked a major controversy in Assam politics. AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal has leveled serious allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He alleged that hate speech has been made against a particular community for the past six months. Ajmal demanded that the court bar the Chief Minister from contesting elections and that he be immediately arrested and jailed. He stated that Sarma is unfit to hold his position.
On February 7, the BJP Assam Pradesh posted a video from its official Twitter handle, “X.” The video was captioned “Point Blank Shot.” In the video, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is seen holding a gun. A picture of two men appears in front of him. One man is wearing a white vest and a cap, while the other has a long beard. In the video, Sarma takes aim and fires a fake bullet, which is shown hitting the picture. One of the pictures is labeled “Paijan.” A frame with the words “Pakistan High Commission” is also visible nearby. Another group photo is visible below, which is not clear.
What message was conveyed in the video?
After the shooting, an AI-generated cowboy version of the Chief Minister is shown. Above it, the words “Jaati, Mati, and Bheti” are written in Assamese, which is his political slogan. The video also shows the words “Foreigner-Free Assam.” Furthermore, a question like “Why did you go to Pakistan?” is shown, which some are attributing to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. At the end, the words “Bangladeshis will not be shown mercy” are seen.
Ajmal’s Reaction
Badruddin Ajmal said that such a video could increase tension in society. He called it inciting against a community. Currently, political rhetoric has intensified regarding this matter. Accusations and counter-accusations are continuing between the BJP and the AIUDF. This issue may further escalate in the coming days.
