Assam Police has achieved a major success by arresting ULFA (I) commander Rupam Assam. The arrest took place while he was hiding in the forests on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. According to the police, Rupam Assam was planning to execute a big conspiracy by hiding there with his comrades. Tinsukia police have also recovered a huge amount of weapons and ammunition along with him. The police had received secret information that this big terrorist commander of ULFA (I) was present on the border, after which the operation was immediately launched.
The main accused in the murder of Bhaskar Kalita
Rupam Assam is the same terrorist who has been the main accused in the murder of brave Assam Police officer Bhaskar Kalita in 2018. In that incident, the police officer died during an encounter. In this case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had filed a charge sheet against Rupam Assam and other ULFA (I) terrorists like Arunodai Dahotia. Due to this, the security agencies were looking for him for a long time. Ultimately, his arrest is being considered a big victory for the police.
He was running an extortion racket in Tinsukia
Not only police killing, Rupam Assam is also accused of extorting money in Tinsukia and eastern Assam.
