In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Assam Police, through its child-friendly policing program ‘Sishu Mitra’, is all set to host Infantia – India’s First National Dialogue on Children’s Rights on the Internet. The event will take place on April 7 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hotel Novotel in Guwahati. Organized in partnership with PIIR Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to protecting children online, and supported by UNICEF India, the conclave is expected to bring together thought leaders, law enforcement, educators, and parents to discuss the pressing issues around children’s safety in the digital world.
Building on the Success of #DontBeASharent Campaign
Infantia is a natural extension of Assam Police’s award-winning digital safety campaign #DontBeASharent, which warned parents against oversharing their children’s information online. The event will be inaugurated with a keynote address by Assam’s Director General of Police, Harmeet Singh, who emphasized that the police’s role goes beyond traditional law enforcement. “We must go beyond policing and policy—we must become protectors of childhood in all its evolving forms. The internet is now a fundamental part of that journey. Assam Police is proud to lead this national conversation on placing children at the center of the digital future,” said Singh.
Celebrity Guests and Special Performances to Highlight Digital Parenting
Bollywood actor and popular parenting influencer Neha Dhupia will also join the event as a guest speaker. She will participate in a fireside chat, where she will share insights on how films, OTT content, and internet culture are shaping children’s minds today. Another highlight of the event will be a special theatrical performance by renowned Assamese actors Kapil Bora and Zerifa Wahid. Conceptualized by PIIR Foundation’s founder Salik Khan and scripted by noted academic and critic Professor Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri, the performance will explore the complexities of parenting in the digital age.
Workshops and Discussions to Empower Parents and Educators
The conclave promises a wide range of engaging sessions including a panel discussion on bridging children’s real-world and digital rights, a conversation on parenting in the screen age, and a hands-on digital parenting workshop. In addition, findings from recent research on digital parenting behavior in India will be presented to provide evidence-based recommendations. The event aims not just to spread awareness but also to equip parents and guardians with practical tools and knowledge to better navigate digital challenges while ensuring their children’s safety and mental well-being. With Infantia, Assam Police is taking a bold and timely step towards making the internet a safer and more inclusive space for the next generation.
