Assam Police on Saturday recovered drugs worth more than Rs 11.5 crore in two separate operations in Karbi Anglong and Cachar districts. Cachar Police arrested a man named Iqbal Hussain Majumdar in Silchar and recovered 84 grams of heroin from him. Apart from this, the police stopped a vehicle at Khatkhati checkpost in Karbi Anglong district and seized 4.899 kg of morphine, which is said to be worth around Rs 5 crore. A drug smuggler was arrested in this case.
Big action of STF in Cachar
Cachar District Police and Special Task Force (STF) stopped a vehicle in Sonabarighat area and seized 1.239 kg of heroin from it. The value of this seizure is estimated to be around Rs 6.5 crore. Three people have been arrested in this operation. This action of the police has created panic among the drug mafia in the area. The Cachar police officer said that we are trying to make the state drug-free by constantly conducting such operations.
Chief Minister praised the efforts of the police
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Assam Police for this big success on social media. He wrote, “One State One Mission: #AssamAgainstDrugs. In two separate operations, Assam Police has made a big blow to the drug business. Karbi Anglong Police stopped the vehicle at Khatkhati checkpost and recovered 4.899 kg of morphine worth Rs 5 crore. A smuggler was arrested. At the same time, Cachar Police and STF seized 1.239 kg of heroin worth Rs 6.5 crore at Sonabarighat and three people were arrested. The Chief Minister also informed that earlier on May 18, Assam Police had seized heroin worth Rs 3.16 crore.
