The ‘#DontBeASharent’ campaign started by Assam Police has now become a global movement, highlighting the risks of over-sharing of personal information of children on social media and the urgent need for responsible digital behaviour by parents and caregivers. The movement has prioritised children’s digital safety by spreading awareness across the world.
Neha Dhupia’s support: Digital safety of children is important
Famous actress and parent working on online safety Neha Dhupia has joined this campaign. She said, “As a mother, I understand the joy of sharing children’s achievements online, but we must question how much sharing is right? ‘#DontBeASharent’ reminds us that we should protect our children not only physically, but also digitally.”
Way forward: Expanding the awareness campaign
The campaign will now be expanded through awareness videos, public service announcements (PSAs) and educational workshops in schools and community spaces. Apart from this, there are plans to spread it internationally as well. Assam Police and PIIR Foundation will work to create aware dialogue on children’s digital rights and responsible parenting in the internet age.
Discussion on digital rights and future efforts
The ‘#DontBeASharent’ campaign has become an important platform to talk about children’s digital safety and their rights. The campaign is now starting a powerful dialogue on children’s safe digital life and online rights, which will inspire parents and society towards responsible digital behavior.
