Assam News: Even a month after the untimely demise of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, his voice and artistic magic continue to resonate in the state. A public tribute ceremony was held on Sunday in Lakhidhar Bora area, Dighalipukhuri, on his death anniversary. Prominent leaders, thinkers, and admirers of Assam gathered for the occasion. Several dignitaries, including Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Goik, renowned thinker Hiren Gohain, Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) President Lurinjyoti Goik, and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Goik, attended the ceremony.
Tribute and Release of Memorial Book
Flowers were offered at Zubeen Garg’s statue during the ceremony, and a memorial book, “Kanchanjunga,” based on his life and contributions, was released. Addressing the gathering, Gaurav Goik said that it is everyone’s responsibility to carry forward the vision of cultural icons like Zubeen Garg and Bhupen Hazarika. He urged the government to make public all evidence related to Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma to ensure transparency in the case.

Questions on the SIT and the Investigation
Gaurav Goik alleged that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the government is not aimed at uncovering the truth of the case but rather at protecting those involved in Zubeen Garg’s death. He said, “The SIT has been formed only to conceal the connections between Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, not to uncover the truth behind Zubeen’s death. This is why the investigation is being delayed.” He also targeted the Chief Minister, saying that his priority appears to be protecting his political image rather than ensuring justice.
Appeal to Avoid Politicization
Also, AJP chief Lurinjyoti Goik appealed to the public not to make Zubeen Garg’s death a political issue. He said, “In Zubeen’s name, I request everyone not to view his death from a political perspective. People are still mourning his passing. Our only demand is that the mystery surrounding his death be revealed.” He also said that other witnesses who were present at Zubeen Garg’s final moments in Singapore should also be legally investigated. Sunday’s ceremony made it clear that deep respect and grief remain for Zubeen Garg in Assam, and that his music and legacy are vital to the state’s cultural identity.
