Assam News: Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra Society has taken an important initiative with the aim of giving more recognition to the rich cultural heritage of Assamese language. A grand ceremony was organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Tuesday in which five historical Sanchipat manuscripts of Assam were presented to the Rashtrapati Bhavan Library. This initiative is being considered a big and inspiring step towards giving national recognition to Assamese literature.
Grand event held at Rashtrapati Bhavan
In this event, Kalakshetra Secretary Sudarshan Thakur formally handed over these valuable manuscripts to Rashtrapati Bhavan Secretary Deepti Umashankar. On this occasion, senior officials of Assam Bhavan New Delhi and representatives of Assam and Government of India were also present. A glimpse of the culture and devotional tradition of Assam was seen in the entire event, which was an unforgettable experience for all the people present there.
Gift of Satpremis: Five divine manuscripts
Among these five manuscripts, ‘Kirtan Ghosh’ is written by Srimanta Shankardev, which was handed over by Satthdhikari Sri Sri Nanigopal Dev Goswami of Sri Sri Dakshinapat Satra, Majuli. While ‘Adi Dasham’, a poetic adaptation based on the tenth chapter of Bhagavata Purana, was presented by Satthhadhikar Shri Shri Nityananda Dev Goswami of Shri Shri Narua Kuji Satra, Morigaon.
Apart from this, ‘Nam Ghosa’ composed by the great man Shri Shri Madhavdev was presented by Satthhadhikar Shri Shri Janardan Dev Goswami of Shri Shri Uttar Kamalbari Satra, Majuli. The Assamese translation of ‘Bhakti Ratnavali’ composed in Sanskrit was also done by Madhavdev which was presented by Shri Shri Bhavakant Dev Goswami of Shri Shri Kamalbari Satra, Titabor.
Precious translation of Gita Govinda was also included
Another rare manuscript was included in this event which is the Assamese translation of ‘Gita Govinda’. It was originally written by Jaydev in Sanskrit and later translated into Assamese by Kaviraj Chakraborty. This precious heritage was handed over to Kalakshetra by Shri Suren Phukan of Jorhat which has now been donated to the Rashtrapati Bhavan Library.
Inspiring initiative to preserve heritage
Kalakshetra Secretary Sudarshan Thakur expressed his gratitude to all the authorities and collaborators who made this historic initiative a success. He said that this step will give a new direction to the rich tradition of Assamese language and the coming generations will get an opportunity to connect with their literary glory. This initiative is not only an act of preserving a cultural heritage but also an effort to get it recognized at the national level.
