Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, a prominent leader and activist of the Bodo community, and praised his contributions. He said that Brahma ji, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, led a non-violent movement and struggled throughout his life for the culture, identity and rights of self-determination of the Bodo community. At an event held in Delhi, the statue of Bodofa Brahma was unveiled and a major road was named after him in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders. CM Sarma called it a moment of pride for Assam and the Bodo community.
Bodo Peace Accord brought a new era in Assam
Chief Minister Sarma also said in his speech that the demand for a separate Bodoland had once put the unity of Assam in danger, but the Bodo Peace Accord signed in the year 2020 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah brought a new era of peace and harmony in the state. He said that this honour is not only for Bodofa Brahma but for the entire community which believed in democratic struggle and fought with patience and determination for its identity and rights. He said that this statue will become a source of inspiration for the new generation.
The central government will take a tough stand on terrorism: Amit Shah
On this occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah, while paying homage to the legacy of Bodofa Brahma, reiterated the central government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against terrorism. He said that those who think that they will achieve a big victory by carrying out terrorist attacks should understand that this is Narendra Modi’s government and no one will be spared here. Shah said that after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the government has decided to further intensify the war against terrorism and every attacker and conspirator will be answered. He said that 140 crore people of India and the whole world stand with India in this fight.
Warning to Pakistan and announcement of strict steps
Home Minister Shah also said that the central government has taken several steps to give a strong message to Pakistan. This also includes the decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty for the time being. He said that the death of 26 people in the Pahalgam attack on April 22 has shaken the entire country and now the time has come to root out terrorism. He warned that the terrorism that was flourishing in Kashmir since the 90s will now be completely eradicated and every terrorist will definitely be punished for their deeds. Shah said that the government is ready to go to any extent against terrorism and this fight will continue until every inch of the country is free from terrorism.
