Assam News: Stir on India-Bangladesh border! Illegal intruders are being pushed into no-man’s land

Assam News: The process of identifying and sending back illegal Bangladeshis has been expedited once again in Assam. The BJP government has taken a tough stand on those who have been declared illegal Bangladeshis by the Foreigners’ Tribunals. Now such people are being sent to the no-man’s land of the India-Bangladesh border. On 27 and 29 May, 49 illegally declared Bangladeshi citizens have been sent back from Western and Southern Assam. After this, at least three petitioners have filed a petition in the Supreme Court and the Guwahati High Court demanding to trace their relatives. They suspect that their family members have also been sent back, so they have appealed to stop this campaign.

The ban was imposed during the NRC update

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said that 30,000 people declared foreigners by various tribunals have gone missing in the last several years. We have decided to speed up the process of identifying them. This process was stopped during the update of the NRC. The Chief Minister said that as soon as we detect such people, we have to take action and we are doing all this according to the law. The Chief Minister also said that many protests can be seen in the coming days. He clarified that if any Bangladeshi declared illegal appeals in the High Court or Supreme Court, then his hope of staying in India remains. But those who have not appealed, their right to stay here ends.

Two types of illegal people present in Assam

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said that if the court has stayed the tribunal’s order to declare them foreigners, then we respect the court’s decision and are allowing such people to stay here. He told that there are two types of illegal people. First, those who have come recently and second, those who have been declared foreigners by the tribunal. The Chief Minister told that the Supreme Court had ordered in February that those who have been declared illegal foreigners and who have not appealed should be sent back under any circumstances. He said that only yesterday 35 Bangladeshis were caught in Silchar near the Meghalaya border who had recently arrived and were immediately sent back.

Guwahati High Court seeks report from government

On Thursday, the Guwahati High Court issued a notice to the state government seeking a report on two brothers who were declared illegal foreigners by the tribunal and were later released on conditional bail. Abu Bakar Siddiqui and Akbar Ali’s nephew Torap Ali claimed in their petition that their family suspects that both uncles have been illegally sent to Bangladesh. In this case, the court has ordered the government to provide full information. In this way, the issue of identification and deportation of illegal foreigners in the state is once again heating up and more debate and legal battle can be seen on this in the coming days.
