Amit Shah appealed to the people of Assam to elect the BJP government for a third time to stop infiltration and to strengthen Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s hand. He stated that the two previous BJP governments had freed 1.26 lakh acres of land from encroachers. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s hardline stance could consolidate his core electoral base, as many voters in Assam resonate with the issues of illegal migration, demographic change, and indigenous identity. It could alienate Muslim, Bengali-speaking, middle-class, and urban voters.
