Assam News: Major CID action in Zubeen Garg case! Assam Police DSP's cousin arrested, raising many questions

Assam News: The case of the suspicious death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore last month has taken a major turn. On Wednesday, investigating agencies arrested Zubeen Garg’s cousin and DSP of the Assam Police, Sandipan Garg. Special DGP of the Assam CID, Munna Prasad Gupta, stated that Sandipan Garg had been continuously questioned for the past few days. Gupta said, “We have arrested Sandipan Garg and the necessary legal procedures are now being completed.” Officials said that the accused officer was produced in a Guwahati court and police remand will be sought.

Five people arrested so far, new clues to a conspiracy

This is the fifth arrest in this case. Previously, Shyamkanu Mahanta, the main organizer of the North East India Festival, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and two band members, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta, were arrested. All of them are currently on police remand. The CID/SIT team has formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate Zubeen Garg’s death. All arrested accused were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court.

“Zubeen was poisoned” – Bandmate’s sensational claim

Zubeen’s bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who is also arrested in the case, has made a sensational claim during police interrogation that the singer was poisoned by his manager Siddharth Sharma and organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta. He stated that the two deliberately chose a foreign location like Singapore to conceal the conspiracy. According to the remand note obtained by PTI, Goswami said that “a conspiracy was hatched to make Zubeen’s death appear like an accident.” The document also mentions that Siddharth Sharma’s conduct was highly suspicious after the incident and that he ordered Goswami not to show anyone the video of the events on the yacht.

Hopes for justice amid suspicion and investigation

Zubeen Garg, 52, died while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. Following his return to Assam, he was cremated with full state honours in Kamarkuchi on Tuesday. A second postmortem was also conducted to rule out any criminal conspiracy. Responding to public demand and the need for transparency, the Assam government has formed a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating every angle of Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death.
