Assam News: After the extended executive meeting of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee held in Guwahati, party president Gaurav Gogoi made a big political announcement. He said in clear words that if the Congress comes to power in Assam, the government will confiscate the land allegedly “illegally occupied” by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma and his ministers. He also said that the land will be distributed among the poor to ensure social justice.
The poor will get land rights
Gaurav Gogoi said that after the formation of the Congress government, the first priority will be to provide land to the poor and economically weaker sections. He assured that all the illegal land that will be confiscated will be properly evaluated and distributed among the needy. This step will not only bring changes in the field of land reform but will also prove to be important in the direction of economic reforms.

Continuously growing discontent with the BJP government
Gogoi claimed that the people of Assam are now getting angry with the BJP government. He alleged that the Chief Minister and his associates are misusing power and grabbing the land that belongs to the people. He also said that the anger among the people will definitely be reflected in the 2026 assembly elections and Congress will get public support.
Will bring land and economic reforms after coming to power
Gaurav Gogoi also announced that the Congress party will implement comprehensive land and economic reforms after coming to power. He said that the goal of the party is not only to gain power but to eliminate economic inequality in the state and empower the poor. He also said that the Congress will come up with a strong policy that will provide permanent assistance to small farmers, landless and unemployed.
Land politics will increase in politics
With this statement of Gaurav Gogoi, it has become clear that the land issue can become a major election agenda in the 2026 Assam assembly elections. Congress is making it an issue of the rights of the poor while BJP can call it a political conspiracy. Now it has to be seen how much the public believes in this promise and how much impact this issue has on the politics of Assam.
