Assam News: Civil Defense Mock Drill is being organized across the country on 7 May by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. Regarding this exercise Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that “The Home Ministry has issued the order but we will get information about its Standard Operating Procedure i.e. SoP only after the meeting.” Actually he gave this statement in the context of the high-level meeting in which Chief Secretaries and Civil Defense Officers from across the country participated. The meeting was chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan. In this meeting the countrys emergency preparedness and procedures were reviewed.
Vigilance increased after Pahalgam terror attack
26 innocent people lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April. After this attack security agencies across the country have become alert. Keeping this in mind the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to organize this nationwide mock drill on 7 May. The purpose of this drill is to check the readiness of the security forces and civil administration in any disaster or terrorist attack situation. During this exercise sirens will be sounded at many places and people will be made to follow the procedure to reach safe places on time.

Sirens will also resonate in northeastern states
The states of northeastern India have been placed in the second and third categories of this exercise. This means that the sounds of air raid sirens will be heard in these states and mock alerts will be issued. Full preparations are being made for this exercise in the northeastern states including Assam. People are also being told that this is a mock drill so that no panic spreads. It has been clearly stated by the government that this exercise is an important step towards strengthening the security system of the country.
Exercise will be held at 259 places
This nationwide civil defense mock drill will be conducted at a total of 259 places. It has been divided into three categories. Sensitive areas have been placed in category-1 where there is a high possibility of terrorist threat. Category-2 and category-3 include the remaining states and cities which also include the states of the Northeast. Teams from the police army NDRF and other emergency services will participate in this exercise. Mock attacks and emergency situations will be created during the exercise to see how the administration and citizens respond.
