Assam News: On Saturday morning, mild tremors of earthquake were felt once again in North-East India. According to the National Center for Seismology, this earthquake occurred at 7:38 am and 25 seconds. Its intensity was measured at 2.9 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Nagaon district of Assam. Its depth was 10 kilometers below the ground and it was located at 26.50 north latitude and 93.27 east longitude. Since the intensity was very low, most people did not feel it.
There was no loss of life or property
Fortunately, there is no news of any loss of life or property due to this earthquake. The tremors were very mild and were felt only in some areas. Even before this, mild and moderate intensity earthquakes have been felt many times in Assam. Experts believe that Assam is an earthquake-sensitive area where such activities keep happening from time to time. However, the state administration and disaster management department remain alert so that any emergency can be dealt with.
Recently there were two more tremors
This is not the first time that an earthquake has struck Assam. Recently, on March 28, earthquake tremors were felt in Assam. At that time, the effect of a powerful earthquake in Myanmar was felt in many districts of Assam. Earlier, on February 27, 2025, an earthquake of 5.0 magnitude hit Morigaon district. The epicenter of that earthquake was 16 kilometers below the ground and its tremors were felt in many areas including Guwahati. There was no damage in both these incidents but a slight fear was definitely seen among the people.
Why do earthquakes occur
Earthquakes occur due to geological movements inside the earth. The outer layer of the earth, called the lithosphere, is divided into several tectonic plates. These plates keep moving at a slow speed. When these plates collide with each other or separate or slide under each other, tension is created. When this tension suddenly breaks, the earth starts shaking and this is called an earthquake. Assam and North-East India fall in such areas where there is more collision of plates, so earthquakes are often felt here.
